2. Where does the money that ends up being donated to my charity or organization come from?
Many on-line retailers pay referral fees for on-line shopping business that is sent to their site from a third party site, such as Books for Bucks. Those fees vary from retailer to retailer Once an “eligible purchase” has been made, the retailer credits the account of the third party. The amount credited, that is the portion of the total purchase price that is eligible for the referral fee, does not include shipping, handling or insurance. Only the actual cost of the goods purchased is eligible for a referral fee. That process typically takes 6-8 weeks. There is no charge to the consumer for using the Books for Bucks website to access their favorite retailer’s website and make their purchases.
Once we receive the credit from the retailer it goes into a pool for each designated charity. Once each pool reaches $25, a check is sent to the organization. Special Fund raising pools will be distributed on a monthly rolling basis, whether or not the pool reaches $25.
Books for Bucks does not promote individuals to purchase beyond their means, nor to specifically make purchases in order to donate a portion to charity. If you wish to support an organization, the most effective and efficient manner is through your direct support of that organization.
However, for everyday and routine purchases that you would have ordinarily made through a retailer’s website, you can effortlessly direct a portion of that purchase to your favorite charity by utilizing the Books for Bucks portal.
